Missions

The Church of the Nazarene began with a heart for missions. Our local church joins with over 10,000 Nazarene churches around the world to support:

  • Outreach ministry in 151 world areas
  • Approximately 788 missionaries and 196 missionaries’ children
  • Monthly pensions for 320* retired missionary units; (“units” consist of couples and single missionaries)
  • At least 40 Bible and theological colleges, 11 liberal arts universities, and 5 vocational and training schools—with 40,801 students enrolled
  • Two hospitals, as well as community-based health care/medical clinics
  • Literature in 67 languages
  • Casa Robles (Nazarene Missionary Retirement Center)
  • The facilitation of Nazarene Compassionate Ministries, Work & Witness, Alabaster, and World Mission Broadcast
  • Administrative costs to facilitate ministries and services to 14,567 churches and 4,123 church-type missions around the world

We realize that we are part of an international community.  Many countries where missionaries used to serve are now sending out their own missionaries.  God calls people from all walks of life to be missionaries in far away lands:  preachers, teachers, doctors, nurses, business people, builders, computer programers, and many other professions.  God also wants to use us in our local communities.  Our first mission field is to those closest to us, our famlies, friends, and co-workers.  The best way we can share the gospel is by living lives of unconditional love to those around us.

We make this our goal at Sheridannaz:  to love those near and far with the love God has show to us.

At Sheridannaz, we participate in mission work by:

  • Regular prayer for missions around the world
  • Contributing to our local food bank and area needs
  • Giving a significant portion of our tithes and offerings to others through our denominational missions structure
  • Regular offerings for special projects around the world
  • Gathering of “Crisis Care Kits” to be sent to areas of disaster and need around the world
  • Monthly meetings focused on learning more about outreach and mission work
  • Adopting, praying for, and caring for Nazarene missionaries through LINKS (Loving, Interested Nazarenes, Knowing and Sharing)
  • Reading books about missions
  • Any many other ways
